Will the lawmakers of Pennsylvania legalize online gambling in the near future? It seems Pennsylvanians will get more than online casino access in the near future as a new Pennsylvania online gambling bill has been voted by the House to legalize online gaming and daily fantasy sports in the state.
If the lawmakers of Pennsylvania legalize online gambling, it is going to be the fourth state to legalize online poker. It will also be among the most liberal states to allow online gambling in the US.
Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed the legislations on Tuesday creating an important way to legalize online gambling. The Pennsylvania House of Representatives rejected a previous proposal last week as the proposed bill included a point which intended to allow video gaming terminals in any shop which holds liquor license. Strict US gambling laws wouldn’t allow such a radical move.
The new proposed bill omitted the controversial point regarding the legalization of video gaming terminals in liquor shops. The House voted 117-85 in favor of the HB 2150 legislation which will eventually bring more liberal online gambling laws. However, it is still early to raise a toast as the bill has to go through the senate and signed by the Governor of Pennsylvania Tom Wolf.
What Happens if Pennsylvania Legalize Online Gambling
This bill is really important for the gambling fans and the industry. If Pennsylvania legalize online gambling, it will be among the states with liberal gambling laws. Currently, Nevada gambling laws and New Jersey gambling laws are the two examples of the states with liberal online gambling laws.
This new bill will legalize online casinos, online poker, and online daily fantasy sports in Pennsylvania. Moreover, slot machines will be installed at the airports and off-track betting parlors.
The state is seeking resources to generate fund for a proposed $31.5 billion budget. If the HB 2150 legislation passes into law, the new gaming licenses and tax revenues are expected to generate $266.5 million for the state budget in 2016-17.
This new bill is expected to attract many US online casinos to the state as its gambling potential is quite appealing for online gambling businesses. Liberal Pennsylvania gambling laws would also boost the number of Pennsylvania online poker sites.
Legalization of Online Gambling in Pennsylvania May not Happen Soon
Although the members of Pennsylvania House of Representatives have shown strong desire to legalize online gambling in Pennsylvania, the proposed legislation may not pass into law very soon as the bill will be taken to the Senate and then to the governor. Nevertheless, the budget planning will be done soon. So, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the lawmakers of Pennsylvania legalize online gambling earlier than expected.
The industry experts highlight the important of online gambling for the state budget of Pennsylvania. The Poker Players Alliance executive director John Pappas stated that “This legislation will create jobs and help the Commonwealth close its budget gap.”
Pennsylvanian online gaming fans are waiting for the legislation to pass in to law.
