The latest reports from the US indicate that Gaming Innovation Group, GiG, have extended their current deal with Hard Rock International in a heist to launch a sportsbook in Iowa. The deal will allow Hard Rock to make use of GiG’s sportsbook in their land-based casinos at first, with online and mobile sports betting options expected to be available in Q4 2019. Let’s take a look.
Iowa has proven to be a state with a lot of credibility when it comes to gambling, with the state making $2.2m in sports betting revenue for the first 17 days it was available. You can find the whole story at the latest online gambling news.
GiG Land Hard Rock Deal Extension
Initially, GiG’s land-based sportsbook will be available for the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in in Sioux City, with expectations taking place that the online and mobile sports betting options will be available in Q4 of this year.
The supplier predicts that despite this launch, the sports betting options will not generate a great deal of revenue for 2019 but that 2020 will be better-placed for this development.
The deal is quite similar to the initial contract between the two companies. In October 2018, GiG partnered up with Hard Rock in their first agreement in order to launch its land-based sportsbook in New Jersey at the beginning of 2019.
Here’s a few words from Richard Brown, the acting CEO of GiG:
“After a successful launch in New Jersey, I am delighted to further deepen the relationship with Hard Rock, delivering on our strategy to grow with our partner by entering a new state in the US with our sportsbook.”
Funnily enough, with Iowa launching their online sports betting options in the middle of August, they were the first state to launch sports betting on the same day as retail.
That did not stop the consumers from placing bets, despite having to go in-person first to register themselves as the state amassed $2.2m in the remaining 17 days of the year. We believe that this partnership between GiG and Hard Rock to operate in Iowa will have the same potential as New Jersey.
