Atlantic City Gambling Revenue Keeps Its Declining Trend

22810

Atlantic City gambling revenue has been in decline for a long time. There are only seven brick and mortar casinos left in New Jersey’s gambling hub after Trump Taj Mahal closed its doors on the 10th of October.

Atlantic City gambling revenue is in decline while online casinos in New Jersey keep performing better and better. According to the latest online gambling news, Atlantic City’s land-based gambling revenue fell 3.5% in September compared to the revenue gained in the same period last year. This year’s numbers indicated revenue of $210 million in September while the Atlantic City casinos made $218 million in September 2015.

Fortunately, the New Jersey online casinos closed the gap with their outstanding performance in September. Internet gambling revenue in the Garden State saw 35% increase in year-to-year comparison in September. This year’s New Jersey online gambling revenue totaled more than $016.2 million in September while last year’s internet gambling income was around $12 million in the same month. It is a known fact that US online casinos are in rapid increase in revenue and popularity while the same cannot be said about the land-based casinos.

The chairman and the executive director of the Casino Control Commission claimed that September was a catastrophic month for the Atlantic City casinos due to the hurricane threat which caused cancellations of important events over the long Labor Day weekend.

Another important incident influenced the drop of the Atlantic City gambling revenue last month was the declining popularity of Trump Taj Mahal Resort and Casino in its final moments. The gambling hub – once called as the World’s eight wonder by the Republican presidential candidate Donald J. Trump – closed its doors four days ago. Once a popular gambling destination, Trump Taj Mahal saw a fierce 50% revenue fall in September in year-to-year comparison which means a more than $8.4 million loss for Donald Trump’s former business.

According to the Press of Atlantic City, only eight Atlantic City casinos managed to generate high profit in September. These include Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, Golden Nugget Atlantic City, Resorts Casino Hotel, and Tropicana Atlantic City.

It is a matter of wonder whether the remaining seven casinos will be able to revive the charm of the city increasing the Atlantic City gambling revenue within a short term.
